Writing 101, Day Five

Day 5 Assignment: Be Brief
 You discover a letter on a path that affects you deeply. Today, write about this encounter. And your twist? Be as succinct as possible.

She said, “I’m sorry”,
An awful lot of times.
Then tried to say, “Goodbye”,
It took a while.

But still she wrote it,
Her letter,
Long and raw, and wretched.

How I came across it,
I’ll never know –-

She might have dropped it in a flurry,
Or could have thrown it away;
I could not say.

So I left it there, by the lonely bench,
Where I found it,
For the passing wind to carry,
Or so it could make another stranger’s heart weary.

She said, “I’m sorry”;
Why, she loved him so well.

  1. You’ve done a nice job with this piece. Through your speaker’s words, I can see the actual writer of the letter attempting, on multiple occasions, to get it written precisely in the way that she wanted it, yet failing.

    Sometimes, saying what you NEED to say in a way that satisfies you is extremely difficult.

    Back on task:
    Flow is good. Grammar, structure work very well for the way you’ve structured this.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Wow, thank you for the very nice feedback! 😊

      And yes, I agree with what you’ve said, expressing what you think you ought to say can be very emotionally taxing.

      I’m so glad you liked my day five post! 😊
